Preheat Oven to 375° F

Sweet Paste Base

QUANTITY

Margarine

Sugar

Small. pinch

Salt

Large Egg

1tsp.

Vanilla Essence

400g

All Purpose Flour

 

Combine all “Base” ingredients in mixing bowl, Mix for 3 - 4 minutes on medium speed of mixer. Kneed 8 - 10 times by hand and form into a ball. Chill for 30 minutes in refrigerator.

Roll out to 1/4” thickness and place into deep sided 10” x 15” baking pan.

Apple Filling

INGREDIENT

1.4Kg (10 -12)

Baking Apples peeled, cored and diced

Chopped Walnuts

1tsp

Cinnamon

75g

Brown Sugar

4TBS

Cornstarch

250ml

Water

 

Combine sugar, cornstarch, cinnamon and water in a thick bottomed saucepan. Stir thoroughly and constantly while bringing contents to a boil. Reduce to simmer and continue to stir until mixture thickens. Remove from heat and add the Apples and walnuts - mix gently with a spoon until well coated. Set filling aside to cool.

When cool spread evenly on prepared pastry base.

Topping

Granulated Sugar

450g

All Purpose Flour

1tsp

Vanilla Essence

 

Place all 4 topping ingredients together in a bowl, combine with a pastry blender, or electric mixer, until crumbly.

Sprinkle evenly over apple mix.

Bake @ 375° F for 45 - 50 minutes.

When cold, cut into 2” x 2” Squares.
